Dr Donald Li is a specialist in Family Medicine in private practice, and the sole proprietor of Family Medical Practice in Hong Kong. He is the Chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre and the President-Elect of the World Organisation of Family Doctors (WONCA). Dr Li is a member of the 13th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Medical & Health sector, and also a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development.
Over the past years, Dr Li has been actively participating in public services. He is the Director of the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association and a member of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Council. He is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, the Honorary Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Honorary Adviser of The Hong Kong Award for Young People and Honorary Fellow of Agency for Volunteer Service. Dr Li was appointed to serve on various government advisory bodies and committees, including the Community Care Fund Task Force under the Commission of Poverty, the Steering Committee on Primary Healthcare Development and the High-level Steering Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance, the Steering Committee on Strategic Review on Healthcare Manpower Planning and Professional Development of the Food and Health Bureau. Dr Li was awarded Honorary University Fellow from The University of Hong Kong in 2015 and Honorary Fellow from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2016 in recognition of his notable contributions to society.
Dr Li also dedicates much of his professional time to academia and teaching locally and internationally. Among others, he serves as Member of Cornell University Council; Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong; Honorary Clinical Professor in Family Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Honorary Professor of Fudan University; Advisor to the Chinese Society of General Practice of the Chinese Medical Association; Vice Chairman of Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association. He has contributed to the training and development of family medicine in the mainland for over twenty years, and was awarded Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government in 2017.
