Traditionally, entrepreneurs raise capital through angel investment, venture capital firms, IPO and M&A at different stage of development; while social service organisations apply for government funding and subsidies to support their operation. But when it comes start-up projects with strong social missions and desire to serve – or simply known as social innovations – are there efficient ways for them to raise early-stage capital or even find “angels” to guide them through the journey? Social Finance is a relatively new concept to describe capital resources that are available to enterprises that can deliver social benefits to society. This session will outline the similarities and differences between Social Finance and traditional fundraising channels, as well as point out specific requirements when social enterprises attempt to unlock such capital resources. We have invited local and overseas guest speakers from public funding, private funding and crowdfunding platforms to share their insights and practical fundraising tips for social innovation projects with the audience.
